Us girls were seated in the lounge. Was told at 615pm there another group coming in at 630pm, and we had to leave. We had not exchanged our gifts or drank up. And we were not given options to move. We all were not impressed. Food was good.

Fantastic! Stopped in Sunday for lunch and we were very impressed. The food and service were outstanding. The cheese curd appetizer was the best we have had since being in Wisconsin! The burger was so very good, and the fries were unbelievable. The Thai Curry Bowl was very tasty and was a large portion for sure. Wine and beer selection was also excellent. Thank you to Madison for her very good service. Spoke to Chad C. as we walked out to compliment him on his excellent restaurant. He seemed very involved in the operations - no wonder they are successful. This is a “must visit” restaurant in Winnipeg.

Was there for a Christmas dinner party on December 17, 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The service was top notch and the food was great. I had the Blacken chicken breast and rib combo and it truly didn't disappoint. The ribs were tender and tangy and the chicken was fantastic! Tons of grilled vegetables are included, along with your choice of potato, pilaff, soup or salad. I did not leave hungry because the portion sizes were huge. Very tasty drinks as well and appetizers. I'd come here for dinner again and would recommend the restaurant.

Great place we just discovered. Nice environment and food was very good. The mains are high in price and that's not because I feel they are over priced, I'm just poor 😂. They have a good amount of meals in the middle price range and I'd go back for that. Service was a little slow but our server was kind and working very hard.

Had opportunity to go to Block and Blade again last week. Was not disappointed. The food was excellent as was the service thanks to Quentin. I found it strange we couldn’t be seated at a table, only the bar even with reservations. The tables around us remained empty. I’m guess they were short staffed.

Amazing service! Just think earl's vibe with better food + it is local! Their happy hours have great deals - some of the menu items being 50% off. They were one of the only restaurant who accommodated 7 people in patio area on the weekends and had happy hour at the same time! I recommend you to try the potato chips, nachos with pulled pork added to it. Their drink menu is also amazing - such a big selection!

Block & Blade is my go to, not only because all of their food and beverages are delicious and beautifully presented, but also because they have the most fun, most friendly staff of any restaurant I have ever been to in Winnipeg, and that truly keeps me going back time & time again. First time at this restaurant yesterday. It was a great experience. We sat on the patio, enjoyed a couple pints and some delicious lunch. Nice to go to a restaurant that actually prepares food from scratch. They were following all Covid protocols and I felt very safe the entire visit. Lots of local draft options. Its also nice to support a locally owned business. We will be back for sure. A real cute manager visited our table and made sure we were having a great experience. :)

This was our second visit to Block and Blade. A restaurant that features local fare and with great flavour. The appetizer of the Manitoba cheese curds is is great for the featured product of deep fried cheese curds in a light batter but is made by the accompanying tomato based dipping sauce which is freshly made in house The pickerel and chips (pictured) was fresh and cooked perfectly but a bit more greasy than many beer battered fish and the fries were slightly underdone which may mean their frying oil was too cool. The other main pictured is their mac and cheese - although this version was without their bread crumb parmesan crust. They use a great blend of cheeses included a beautiful smoke flavour. The one disappointing main we ordered was the $37 New York Steak. While it was cooked to the perfect doneness, the whole order left a number of things to be desired. In the steak itself, it appears to have been cooked by a sous vide method and finished on a grill, which was great for doneness but it had a large and completely unrendered fat cap making parts of it unappetizing and inedible. It was also notably only seasoned on one side making for uneven flavor. The steak was to come with a red wine jus on top according to the menu, what arrived was a LARGE mass of gloppy, skinned over and over thickened gelatinous gravy underneath the steak. We were actually glad they didn't put it on top! The chosen starch of herb potatoes and side of seasonal vegetables were excellent but couldn't rescue this dish. Even if all was good, it seems slightly overpriced at $37 and we felt a $30 or $32 price point fit better. In addition to the excellent service and atmosphere, one thing that keeps you coming back is the creme brulee. A delight if a dessert we have had both times with the perfectly textured ultra smooth custard with a hint of lemon. The sugar crust on top was perfectly caramelized without the slightest hint of burned flavour that one often receives in a creme brulee. Despite the steak missteps we would return.

Latest Review (Aug 7 2021): My last review was not super positive but I gave Block and Blade another shot and was VERY happy this time around. Our experience was exceptional, as was the food. The menu is much deeper than last time around, and they have more vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I had the chicken burger, which ranks in the top 2 I've ever had (it has some heat), and my spouse had the Nasi Grain bowl which was very, very good. My guests had wings (which were cooked perfectly), and the creamy mushroom alfredo with blackened chicken. All was exceptional. I'm thrilled to have a local restaurant that I feel I can regularly frequent. Old Review (Oct 2020): I like that's its a local restaurant sourcing local ingredients. I also like that they use wood to smoke their food. That said, they took many items off the menu that were really good. Very limited menu for vegetarians and gluten free. More importantly, my wings were undercooked last time I went. Then we ordered in and the fish tacos made our guest sick. I'm disappointed because I really want to support my community restaurant. Hope things turn around. Serving staff is really friendly. ** Old Review **

Perfect place to sit on the patio and enjoy some local food! We were looking to support a local restaurant so we loved that this restaurant is locally owned and operated. With the beautiful weather we were so excited to finally enjoy it and sit on the (clean & socially distant) patio. We loved how clean and spread out all the tables were! We felt safe and knew we could just focus on the awesome food and drinks. We tried the amazing Vegetarian burger & fish tacos! Both of them were delicious! Make sure you get the yam fries! So good!

This is my favorite place to be! Staff are amazing, and the management is so personable. Its amazing they were able to stay positive throughout the lock down and keep up their optimistic attitude. They treat all their customers like family and the food is AMAZING! If you check out one place this year, make it block and blade.

I really dig the ambience of this place, all the wood furnishings look great. We came for burger week but we will be back for sure! The cocktails we had were alright, and the prices were reasonable. Our server, Chris, was on point. Very fast and courteous, and even took our simple mention of our anniversary to heart, bringing us a complimentary carrot cake!

Beautiful place with tasty food. Way better than Earl's with a beautiful patio and trendy vibe. Their wings were absolutely delicious, crispy and flavorful! The zingria, a sangria with berries and citrus is super amazingly refreshing. Also the crispy tofu bowl made with rice, peanuts, green onion, tomatoes and teriyaki sauce so good I wish I had more! Definitely worth the drive!

Late afternoon patio service is slow. 3 visits in a row it took 20-30 minutes to get a simple draft to our table and it was not busy. Keep going back because of the convenient location but service is lacking. The evening inside dinner service is better. Food is decent and the prices are reasonable for this type of restaurant. Staff is nice and it’s clean inside.

It was our first time visiting. We tried the fried chicken week special. It was ok. Ok only due to travel time to get home to enjoy it (probably better hot from kitchen) But their regular menu items were really good. The veggie burger... yum! I’m not a vegetarian and I’d order that next visit! The onion rings are really good. The Caesar salad was fresh and good but not my favourite dressing (think horse radish is in it) but I’m fussy with that flavour. I would still love to try their other menu items as they look really good. 4/5. Front desk guy was great and the note left on the bag was sweet.

We ate at Block and Blade in Sage Creek last evening. I had the crispy chicken and my husband had the burger. It was good, but I suggest adding some kind of sauce, as we found both sandwiches rather dry. The service was great and we did enjoy the meal for the most part!

Myself and a co-worker were in Winnipeg for three months. The Block and Blade was a recommendation from our Air BnB. When we showed up we were pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding and the service even better. The drink selection was top notch. Within the three months we were there we visited often (at least 2-3 times a week). The staff remembered us and treated us to some of the most courteous and friendly service that I have ever experienced in my 49 years. As someone that travels about 9 months a year it was very appreciated. On a personal note I would like to thank all the outstanding people that I met at this gem. I would like to personally thank Sophie, Sunshine, Precious, Sparkles and Chachi (you know who you are) for making us feel at home. Until next time…CHEERS Jason and Yan

The food was good, unfortunately our waitress was vacant for the majority of our time there. We placed our order with her, got the food quite quickly however missing our appetizers. By the time we saw our waitress again it was about 20 minutes after we had received our meals and drinks. We had our dishes pilled nicely on the edge of the table to polity signal that we wanted to pay the tab and leave. Thankfully another waitress was kind enough to take those away for us. I look forward to coming back and hopefully receive better service. Keep up the great work, very well furnished and decorated.

Finally got to check out the inside of Block and Blade! We had such a great dinner and were so excited to try some items from the new extended menu! We absolutely loved the lettuce wraps and the potato crisps! So glad we saved room for desserts because we were obsessed with the salted caramel chocolate tart!

We thoroughly enjoyed a celebratory dinner out with the family making it through (hopefully) the worst of COVID…healthy and doubled vaxxed. The B&B staff were awesome and friendly, meals and atmosphere were great. So grateful to be able to enjoy a night out to support local business’s that have had such a rough ride! Here for dinner on Wednesday evening with my hubbie. Wine selection nice. Started with the deep fried cheese curds - delicious! Ribs are to die for, better than Tony Roma’s. Portion size is generous. Service efficient and friendly. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

I would give Block and Blade a higher rating. But we have order take out a number of times, and every time but once we have had missing items. We always went back to get missing items but never offered compensation for having to go back. Food is always good though.

Once upon a time in a land called Sage Creek. There was a set of handsome set of twins from the Baldini family. They had been on a 15 year quest to quench their thirst with the finest of mountain waters in the prairies. They stumbled upon a watering hole named after the ancient indulging ritual called Block & Blade. A fine maiden assisted in their journey named after the ancient dancing queen Ciara and the majestic mountains Sierra, called Cierra. The great Cierra served these fine mountain warriors the best pints they had ever layed their lips upon. The twins feasted upon the liquid of the gods from such pioneers as Transcanada, Farmery, 1919, and Banded Peak. Their lives forever changed they decided to dedicate the rest of their lives to spreading the good word of Block & Blade and the maiden Cierra so that all may rejoice in this local treasure that shall benefit the world! Seriously though you should eat and drink here!

Sure, you come for the food. But in reality the staff makes this place a place to be. Good food is always fresh, great portions and delicious. But seriously, their secret ingredients are the staff. The staff are like a small family there and they treat you the same. What an amazing locally owned and operated restaurant.

Server was good, we got sat on the not heated patio, with no one else there, and when we asked if could be moved when there was an opening they said we would be first on they list, but people who came after our group, got seated there, and we over heard them say they didn't have a reso. So that was disappointing.. The food was decent, my boyfriends chicken breast was slightly pink in parts. But drinks were great.

I thought everything we ordered was phenomenal. We ordered the ribs which had a wonderful smoke flavour, the perogy pizza was awesome second to none, the burger was delicious, the fries and gravy were so good. And the price was really fair too. I just ordered takeout but when I went inside to pick it up the place looked really upscale and I was really impressed by the looks of it and the service I got when the food came out. Definitely worth checking out, and supporting! Thanks!

Last chance to go out for dinner before code red. However we will be having takeout while we wait out this lock down. On our way home from a trip to Ontario, we stopped in here to meet up with family as we passed by Winnipeg. We were all new to this place and it seemed pretty fancy; and it was. The building is beautiful and is located in a nice area of Winnipeg. We had lunch and the servings were quite large for the price. We had a good meal and left full. I had the chicken sandwich and it was full of flavour and filling, which was what I needed. He had the burger and explained it was the best burger he has ever had. Great service to go along with the great food at a decent price. Would love to stop back if I am ever in Winnipeg again. I recommend you try it too.

This restaurant used to be called rockwood which was not very good. Now it is all new and so much more better. The food: super epic The drinks? Even more epic. Very very cute staff, my server checked on my table so many times and it was busy as heck. Really good recommendations and everyone was sooo smiley 😍. Also everything is locally sourced with many local craft beers on tap!!! Food is so fresh and tastes crazy good. Thank you block and blade for changing my life and becoming my new most favourite restaurant.

I loved how friendly and helpful the service were and how they handled covid 19 social distancing practices as it made it feel much safer. The fried cheese curds were absolutely amazing and I'd order them again however the poutine was actually cold (even with the gravy) and the burger was way too thick in the centre and because it was like an upright cylinder, it didn't even fill out the whole bun and I had to squish it hard to even take a bite. The taste was decent it just needs better presentation for the price they are charging. If I'm paying over $15 for a single burger it better be perfect every time.

We ordered take out for 6 people today for a work lunch. With the limited take out menu everyone was still able to find something they liked. All of the food was delicious. Only reason I didn't give a 5 star is that the Caesar Salad came without dressing. Not a huge deal. We will eat there again for sure.

We had eaten at the previous restaurant at this location before and weren't really impressed. Tonight we ordered takeout, onion rings 5*, quesadilla probably the best one I have ever eaten, tuna bowl excellent and our daughter loved the MacnCheese. Best take out meal in months.

Our wonderful waitress Sophie was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us time to decide and shared what would be a good drink to have on a Saturday evening. The food was delicious! We had the bruschetta, tuna bowl and burger which were all extremely flavourful we will definitely come back. Sophie even came to apologize about the wait for the food even though the wait was not that long! We appreciated that gesture. Thank you Block and Blade we will definitely return to this Winnipeg Gem.

First time at this restaurant. Great place. Servers excellent and food very good. Went in the afternoon and had apps, shared a burger platter and had a couple drinks. We will be back to try the dinner menu. Highly recommended.

This place was fantastic, We were greeted with 4 fabulous smiles and a cheerful welcome. The seating was quick and and in minutes our waiter was on the spot , Fast, friendly,cheerful,relaxing, an overall great night out with my wife. The steaks were absolutely cooked to order, and so tender and juicy. The Cold beers were appreciated and my wife enjoyed The white sangria. The food was awesome and the fiddleheads were a surprise, WELL DONE. We will definitely see you again. Can’t wait to try something different. The steaks rocked!!
