This place is so near and dear to my heart. Why? Consistency!! Always consistent with there flavours. Everything from the Churrasco style cuisine and the charcoal flavour adding that je ne sais quoi! The steaks and the seafood are outstanding. Maria Sousa and her family have done and continue to bring great praise to there culinary expertise. 30 plus years and counting. They’re definitely doing something right.

We order once a week or every other week. The chicken and ribs are phenomenal. This restaurant ain’t amateur! They are the real deal; Portugal style home made cooking, a family who is hard working just like mine and who understood that the secret key to a successful business is to put love and consistency! Churrasqueira & café, congratulation on the devotion! Wishing many more years of success. I’d like to see on the menu ➡️ some good romaine salad topped with raw veggies to accompany my future orders.

My first time i went to this restaurent and there was quite a bit of people especially all were Portuguese. very nice environment, clean, smells amazing like Homemade portuguese food! reminds me of entering a Portuguese restaurent in Portugal. the Servers there are amazing, polite, kind, respectful & fast hard workers! a Shiny star to the chefs as well! my food of the famous n popular chicken was soo good n spicy! the way i love it! loved the sauce, potatoes & rice! ill be going there soon again! i recommend you to try this amazing restaurent! you will be having a smile n be satisfied after you ate lol great portions for price!😀❤ I LOVE THEIR CHICKEN PIRI PIRI SAUCE!!!! 😋😋😋 Gotta try the rest of theur menu!

Don't think twice before going to this small owned family restaurant. It's really worth it. Very cozy environment. Food is fresh and the taste is really great. Jason the owner is extremely friendly and kind. Never go wrong with Portuguese food. Prices are convenient. I highly recommend it . It is my #1 place now for Portuguese dishes. Next time I will try the sea food. Stay tuned.

This is by far the best thing I’ve eaten this year 🤤 I literally started to salivate just looking at these photos and reminiscing about how amazing this meal was ☺️ the chicken skin was so crispy and the meat juicy.. but then you slather on their homemade sauce and voila you are in chicken heaven 🤤 the fries are crisp but so delicate inside it’s like mashed potatoes almost. We liked it so much we went again on our way back to toronto 😅 the sauce is a little spicy but you can adjust how much or little you slather on. I can’t wait to go back

A traditional Portuguese restaurant with an exceptional menu. I had the half chicken with rice and salad, it was amazing and the piri piri sauce drizzled over the rice, say no more. Finished my meal off with a caramel flan, it too was exceptional. Check this place out.

Amazing food traditional Portuguese chicken potatoes rice... the sauce on the chicken is absolutely to die for. I recommend this place to everybody. This would be a 5-star post but when I went to get this food I had to wait nearly an hour. And I called 45 minutes in advance... the food is absolutely delicious one of the best in Hamilton would be nice if they had some extra waiter waitress or bartender. Noticed people were trying to get the guy's attention. I bet you if you bring in some help in the busy times.. you will sell three times the amount of alcohol you're selling now. Anyway great place recommend to everybody to at least try once amazing recipe original. Keep up the great work

We wanted shrimp and to try their chicken...they were sold out of their chicken so we went for the grilled sea bass....WOW! so awesome. We definitely will return to try the chicken and of course for the sea bass! (Veggies side wasn't the greatest though)

O Cantinho is right around the corner from me, but I didn't go there until relatively recently because... it's chicken. How amazing could it be? Well, I was wrong. This place is fantastic. I don't even like pirri pirri sauce (so I just leave it off), but the rotisserie chicken is just really tasty. The fries are very yummy and I love the little round potatoes. Good thing this place is so amazing since getting rotisserie chicken from you-know-where is really hard in this neck of the woods.

Food here is awesome and ordinarily I'd give the business 5 stars. With the pandemic though I have felt uncomfortable picking up orders - each time I have gone there have been multiple other customers not wearing their masks which has made it less than ideal

My brother and I love this place. it's literally the best chicken I've ever had. way better than swiss chalet. The fries are homemade. LOOOVE the sauce too! the place is a bit tight inside. The owners are so friendly. one of my FAVOURITE restaurants!!!! the chicken is worth the wait.

Can confidently say that this is THE best Portuguese restaurant I have ever been to. Over 15 years of coming to this restaurant and I have yet to be let down. Being to many restaurants, this is definitely by far the best one in town. Killer chicken and the sauce is to die for. Highly recommend everyone pass by here when you get the chance, just phenomenal food all around.

Been going here with my family since I was a kid. This place is the real deal when it comes to Portuguese chicken. Don't come expecting anything fancy or hip, O Cantinho has been operating in the city for decades and is well established in the Portuguese community. Good prices, and don't forget to try their sauce on your chicken/ rice/ potatoes

This was the first time we’ve tried this restaurant and ordered takeout. The chicken, rice, veggies and fish cakes were all really good. Great sauce! The kicker was the best Portuguese tarts that I’ve ever had which were still warm after we finished dinner. We will definitely be going back.

My best friend is portuguese but lives outta town I wanted Caldo Verde soup so bad I called this restaurant thinking it is a grocery and the owner pointed me to the right direction to find the sausage...over greatful. They were very nice. Thank u again.

Just tried it on the weekend for the first time by recommendation.there were some good things and there were some less than good things: The chicken was absolutely delicious! Whatever they season the outside of the chicken with and then roast it in is amazing. The salad is hand torn lettuce that is super crispy, fresh and really clean. The grilled calamari was incredibly tough and didn't seem very fresh. Don't get me wrong I know we don't live on the ocean so I don't have crazy expectations but I do have elevated expectations for European restaurants when it comes to seafood. The boiled potatoes that were served with the squid were way over salted, and I'm somebody who loves salt! Even more interestingly, the fries were not salted or very undersalted.....? I thought those two contrasts were a little strange. The seasonal vegetables were terrible lol first of all baby carrots? Grrrrossssss. Again I have higher expectations for a European restaurant, I was really surprised to open the container and say baby carrots with green and yellow beans.... pretty bland and boring for a place that makes such flavorful wonderful chicken. I'll definitely order the chicken again but I probably will forgo a lot of the other items because they were pretty disappointing

I am now addicted to the Portuguese chicken from here! Amazing! And the sides are on point. Then there is their homemade sauce which is the perfect blend. The restaurant is tiny but the ambience is massive. Very much looking forward to stopping in on a Friday to try the weekly octopus special. Highly recommended! Had a very nice lunch here today. The half chicken meal and sides were delicious. That sauce that it came with was amazing. Fast and friendly service. Definitely the spot to hit up to pig out on some Portuguese food. We'll be back soon!

Their Portuguese chicken is legit. Flavorful and well priced meal; comes with Parisian potatoes and rice. The shrimp appetizer is excellent as well.. and I enjoyed their quality olive oil, balsamic vinegar, olives and bread. Nice little gem of a restaurant.

Fantastic little spot. Authentic menu. Have gone in for both lunch and dinner, and always leave satisfied. The chicken is a staple, available any time. But anything else on the menu is a gamble, as not all items are made every day. I recommend trying it to anyone craving good, freshly prepared food, but if you plan on going back and have a menu favourite, I recommend calling ahead to check the what’s available for the day. Although, you really can’t go wrong here. Very reasonable pricing as well, you will leave full and not break the bank doing so. The one negative is seating. It is a very small establishment, and seating is extremely limited. At peak times, you will almost definitely deal with a wait. And true to European eateries, there’s really no sense of urgency with customer turnover. This is the kind of place where people will sit and talk and enjoy their meal, and more often than not, finish up with a cappuccino. Hard to really call that a negative if customers pack the place and enjoy a good meal at their leisure.

I love Portuguese cuisine and googled for restaurants in the Hamilton area. Cantinho came up so we selected that place. We were driving on Barton and barely missed the sign for Cantinho. I believe in the saying, “If you want good food, go where the locals go.” Well, this restaurant had a lot of Portuguese diners so that made me confident that I selected well. We ordered the whole chicken salad and rice. And when our order was served, my eyes popped out. The chicken and potato and rice was overflowing. And the salad was huge!!! I thought that this meal was much too much for two people but I was wrong. The food was so good that we gobbled up everything.

Hands down the best chicken dinner in town!!! If sea food is what your after...these Portuguese shrimp and mussels stand alone!!! Absolutely outstanding food, 4 of us all ate a chicken dinner plus a plate of shrimp and mussels and a desert and one of us had a couple beers. Our bill was 152.00 this place does it right!!! We will be back!! Derek was a very welcoming host :)

I have never in my life enjoyed my chicken as much as I enjoyed their chicken. Honestly I usually have a few bites and get grossed out and pass it to my husband and kids to finish for me. This place by far makes the best chicken. I also enjoyed their salad which reminded me of my mother in-laws. Thanks for a wonderful time with my son and husband. It is such a lovely place to eat in Hamilton.

The stars are for the food. I Picked up my order for a party I had this past weekend. Food was fantastic, and everyone loved it. It would have been nice to be given bags for the food as we had four hot trays to carry out, but was told no we cannot have bags or napkins. I spent almost $200 on food, the least they could have done was give us bags. I would still order from here though, the food is excellent.

Called to order takeout and the man that answered was very abrupt, but not rude on the phone. Took my order, said when it would be ready. Went in to pick up and the place was packed. It was 2 pm on a Saturday and there were a lot of regulars just sitting at tables and drinking (only one or 2 tables had food). No employees were in the dining room, so I had to wait for a couple minutes, but not a big deal. A lady came from the kitchen and asked what I needed, so I told her, then a man came out and I paid. Waited a few more minutes for my food and left. The chicken was really really delicious, and the fries were hand cut and hot! The calamari was rubbery, but it was frozen, so what can you expect? Overall the food was great, the service wasn't overly friendly, but ok, and the prices are fair. Definitely worth going to again, but because the space is so small, I would recommend takeout.

This is honestly the best place we have eaten at in Hamilton I think. Definitley the best portugese place I've ever eaten at. Every single thing they make has been amazing and we have tried almost everything on their menu at this point. Nothing has disappointed, the chicken is seriously amazing though. The portion sizes are great. Our favourite thing to get is a whole chicken, rice, potato balls and their homemade potato chips. The sauce is absoloutley unreal. Love love love this place, we pretty much get it weekly and anytime we have friends over. Everyone we know that has tried it all agree on how amazing it is. Can not reccomend it enough!

My family and I loved everything about this place! This is the perfect example of a family-run business where the owners take real pride in how they run the establishment and it shows the moment you walk in! The food was delicious and authentic! Even though we are not Portuguese, as avid foodies we know an authentic chorizo when we have one 😉! The restaurant and washrooms were very clean and the server took a genuine interest in helping us in order the best way possible! You guys earned the five stars from each of the five folks in my family, well done!

Tonight after having this place recommended to me by several folks, I gave it a try. I am so glad that I did, the chicken was very tasty and the fries are home made, this is the kind of food I'd make at home, delicious. Oh, but I'm forgetting the sauce, of which I should have bought much more, it's a perfect combo of sweet, sour, salty and spicy. The service is what you'd expect at a family restaurant, caring and not in your face, there's no doubt they know what they're doing and that confidence comes through in the food. I will most certainly return. It's a small restaurant and the ambience is very much mom and pop, a few folks drinking espressos checking their phones and a few having dinner. very definitely my kind of place. I love this place, they make one feel right at home. ♥♥♥♥♥♥

My colleague recommended this place, for the Portuguese chicken, and it did NOT disappoint!! The chicken was SO delicious, and the bread...my god. The salad was simple and fresh! The atmosphere is cozy. It felt like having dinner at my in-laws! I will definitely be back, and I would definitely recommend!

This was my second visit here. I am from the USA. We are Portuguese and wanted a nice Portuguese lunch. You will get it at this place. Just like eating at home. The food, atmosphere and staff are excellent. Will be back again next visit to Canada. :)

Absolutely amazing!!!!! My family and I always come here to eat. The chicken is definately our favorite but you can't go wrong with anything you pick!! Its a smaller size place but very cozy and welcoming!! The other reviews about them being rude puzzles me because we have seen nothing but professional, caring, and friendly staff!! Went in last night for a late supper. Dan had the sardines I had the bbq chicken and cod cakes for an appetizer. The service was warm, friendly and prompt and the food was outstanding as well. I highly recommend as you will not be disappointed

Definitely a portuguese eatery to be reckoned with! Chicken is moist and unbelievably flavourful and the prices are impressively reasonable. Parisienne potatoes are perfectly cooked, slight crust and soft, moist in the middle, definitely get some extra hot sauce as you will drink this right out of the cup, sweet, smooth and a heat that slowly rises but doesnt knock you over! Although it took a bit longer for my food, the owners chatted with everyone and made the time pass quickly and made up for the wait. My mouth is watering just writing this review...

Looking for Amazing food, look no further. O Cantinho was highly recommended so I had to check it out and I wasn't disappointed, the food and service was amazing. We've had other Portuguese chicken and nothing comes close so juicy flavourful and the ribs were awesome , we had the shrimp to start and they were amazing. From what we heard everything on the menu is good can't wait to try more. The staff was very helpful and friendly we really felt taken after. O Cantinho is a must if your looking for great food made with quality ingredients by cooks who grew up cooking these items. Can't wait to go back!

My wife and I stopped into this place on a Saturday for lunch. The place was quite full of people and there wasn't any seperate tables available. An older gentleman and his friend invited us to sit at a table with them, which was very nice. Ordered the BBQ chicken lunch and a Portuguese beer. Came out really quickly and it was so delicious. Can't say enough about the taste of the food. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and with a little dab of the peri peri sauce they were heavenly. The chicken was done perfectly to fall off the bone quality. Salad was simple but perfect. Had a great conversation with our table hosts. And the atmosphere in this place, second to none. Very welcoming and real. This place is one of Hamilton's gems and we will be back. Thank you for a perfect lunch and experience!!!
