Biera's Reviews and comments
We came here for my birthday celebration on Oct. 5 2021- Ordered nearly everything on the menu plus some wine and a large variety of beer. The food was amazing, everything was clearly made with care and skill, and every dish was a contender for the tables favorite. Our server Marcell was incredibly attentive and humorous, always ready with refills, timing and quips. He handled the pacing and order of the dishes and ultimately created an incredible experience for us. We'll definitely be back again!
Great food with okay beer; the place was packed but the food was top notch so I definitely understand why. I’ll be taking friends back for sure.
Edit: just found out that the owner of Biera is a financial donor to Mike Nickel. Unfortunately this will be both my first and last visit.
Great restaurant in Ritchie neighborhood! It’s a good spot to grab some drinks (Blind Enthusiasm Brewery) and food! Even though I don’t have the picture, their beef tartare is one of the best in Edmonton! In the same building, there is ACME meat market, Transcend cafe (local coffee roaster), and Duchess Bake Shop (second location).
The food quality itself was amazing, the dumplings were fantastic. I liked the concept that everything is meant to be shared. The restaurant itself is also really interesting in terms of the design. The food is a bit on the pricier end (especially for the portion of food we got). We ordered one of the cheeses and jam and it didn’t come with any crackers which we thought was a bit strange… but when we asked our server for them they brought some over. Though I wish we got more food for the price we paid, it was very tasty and I’m glad I tried it!!
Finally made it out to Biera, it didn't disappoint. Food was incredible, patio was beautiful and the beer flight was fantastic. Too expensive to go very often but it's a nice treat and I actually appreciate the high prices because it reflects the general respect and value they put on their staff. I know they treat their staff well and also respect the fact that if you bring together talented people, the best equipment and incredible ingredients that you can provide an experience that is a cut above your average Edmonton restaurant.
Our food was simply incredible. We ordered the scallops, lobster mushrooms, chicory nectarine salad and short ribs. All the flavors were diverse and so amazing. I didn’t expect fine dining quality from a gastro- pub so it’s was a sweet surprise. We’ll definitely be back.
Incredible array of delicious sharing plates. Staff were wonderfully attentive, charming, and knowledgeable about the dishes. When our table wasn't immediately ready upon arrival for a reso the staff were quick to provide a temporary location and a complementary drink. The entire experience was outstanding and it seems clear that the front end staff know how to take care of customers. Will definitely return.
I recently came here with my boyfriend for lunch. Even though it was just lunch they pulled out all the stops and we had an amazing meal. The service was great, the beer was unique and delicious and the food was better than I could have ever expected.
I highly recommend the Sourdough Nuggets.
Our server Maija was very helpful and provided great recommendations.
We LOVE Biera. My friend and I were desperately seeking a last minute place to meet for lunch and somehow this amazing restaurant had room for two for a lunch date. We seriously lucked out when we arrived to have Marcel greet us as our server. He was the literally the best server I have had in a long effing time. We didn’t look once at the menu and instead requested he pick things for us and it is like he read our souls. The sourdough is amazing. The cocktails were unreal. The service was impeccable. Thank you Marcel for making sure we had such an amazing experience!!!! WILL BE BACK!
My husband and I gave Biera another try after having a disappointing experience there 2 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner this time. We had the gem salad, lemon dumplings, bread with beer cheese , and pork shoulder (which could’ve been a little more tender) but the candied beets were incredible! And the service was amazing!
Biera was a pleasant experience! Had an excellent choice of wines and beers, and service was excellent! Attentive and quick to all our needs. Although the food was good, but portions are small! So be mindful if you wanna come for the food, paying a decent amount for smaller portions because they are meant to be shared. BUT, all the food is high quality!
Truly one of the best restaurants in Western Canada, if. not the entire country. Though it's technically a brewpub, the food here is extremely elevated and definitely not your typical "pub fare".
The sourdough with cultured butter is a must-order to start off dinner here. The grilled cheese curds with pickled peppers and scallop ceviche are two of my favourite dishes from my most recent visits here.
Service is always top notch as well and they've got a great mix takeout options now that the province is in lockdown for at least the next 4 weeks.
Phenomenal experience!!! Marcel was the server for my best friend and I and went over and above to ensure we had a fantastic experience. Food was lovely, loved the sourdough emphasis. Cocktail pairings were the cherry on top. THANK YOU!!!
A constant favourite of ours. The food is always thoughtfully crafted and tasty. Service is top notch, attentive without being overwhelming. We go here regularly and have always been impressed.
We went to Biera for my sons 28th birthday and had a great time! The meal was phenomenal and our waiter, Marcel, was awesome and extremely accommodating. One of our guests has severe peanut and egg allergies and was pleasantly surprised to find he could safely eat almost everything on the menu! Definitely a place to go to for a celebration!
Had a lovely lunch on Valentine’s Day. We chose 2 small plates and 2 larger entree items. Our server told us their new lunch menu wasn’t as good for sharing. But all the items we ordered were very shareable. My husband also ordered the beer sampler and I had cider to accompany our meal. We finished off our meal with a coffee pudding, buttermilk sorbet with cocoa nib chocolate crunch. Presentation wise for the desert wasn’t the greatest but the taste was delicious. The service was great as the staff was very attentive even though the restaurant was quite busy at lunch. Definitely get reservations if you plan to come as it was buzzing the day we came in.
First visit here, everything about the experience was great!
Great service! Reasonable price. Good brewski. The short ribs was too salty. Rib eye was a bit dry. In general, good food.
What an amazing place! Came here with my hubby and son for my birthday dinner. Transcend Coffee, Duchess Bake Shop, Acme Meats, Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company and Brier under the same roof working together as a team to make this experience the best by far! A place to bring your family, partner and friends! Plates are meant to be shared. There are a few items on the menu called Mealshare, when ordered, they provide a simple and healthy meal to a youth in need. Our server, Christian, was also fabulous! Reservations highly recommended. Hope your experience is as great as mine!
Biera has a wonderful establishment, great atmosphere and patio area as well. However, I can't say I enjoyed the experience. The menu is quite limited and I understand the food is not traditional meals but are dishes meant to be shared, however the portions are so small for the price. Between two of us it definitely left us hungry.
We ordered the lobster mushrooms (very delicious but $22 for what seemed like a few bites) and pork shoulder, definitely would have paired great with some side dishes but we didn't see any on the menu. We also tried the flight of beers available but I can't say it made me a fan of Blind Enthusiasm brews. I wish dishes would come out together, there was a 20 minute wait between dishes and I was sure the servers forgot we had even ordered our second dish. I can't say I look forward to coming back any time soon...
How did we not know this place excited for the last 2 years is beyond me. Very cool brewery pub with a fine dining twist. Food was incredible and unique! Can't wait to check out the patio in the summer!! It even had a cheese bar!! Loved it!!
Great drinks and food in a fun neighborhood. Blue cheese fondu was delicious! Make a reservation before heading over. Will definitely be going back!
Pretty amazed at how good the food is here. Love the decor of the place and the neighbourhood. Service is really good also. I definitely will go back!
Beautiful space in Ritchie market. Every single dish ordered was so rich in flavor and unique. The service was excellent and great selections of local beer. I would highly recommend this place for date night with your significant other or a small group of friends as the plates are meant to be shared! The charcoal pork was delicious and by far my favorite of the 5 dishes ordered that night. I will definitely be back soon!
It was so nice to find a place that allowed us to book a patio table for a larger group on a Saturday night! The food was amazing and service was great as well. Highly recommend.
This restaurant and brewery is located is Ritchie. I was so surprised that they did not have any vegan food on their menu. I went there recently with the hope that they will have something suitable on their menu as most restaurants do nowadays. I have to add that they have tried to figure out something for me which was nice but please even McDonald has vegan options on the menu. I ended up ordering a pizza without cheese. 🙃
I love this place! The decor and atmosphere is so chill and very industrial chic! The food was amazing and the in house beer was also very good! A must try!!
Absolutely amazing experience. Every dish was beautifully plated. We highly recommend the Beef Tartare. Additionally, the Petit Peu was great for someone who enjoys a fruity beer!
Fairly pricey for the neighbourhood and the portions. The sauces really helped make the main fair shine. The fusion combinations are fairly unique but have understated textures. I enjoyed my meal and the service was absolutely amazing. The beers are lovely, though limited. The raw meat dishes and especially the salad are 😘 But I have to admit a dozen deep fried beans and two tablespoons of sauce (pictured) for 12 bucks is a bit harsh. Still overall a beautiful facility, great service and good dishes of healthy, inventive and artistic food.
Nice place.. 24 dollar for 2 scallops. 38$ for one small piece of pork shoulder. Food is very tasty but way below a meal size. Interesting beer
Great foods and service. We had a group of 4 and had no idea what to order. The server is very kind and helpful. We started with cheese and then ordered a few dishes to share. Every single dish is so great. You won’t regret.
Food quality is top notch. Not the basic dishes you get at every other restaurant. Went on a Thursday around 7pm no reso and the entire restaurant was full ended up sitting in a small table In the corner with no window however we were glad they got us in right away. Would definitely suggest having a reservation here even if it’s just for 2 people.
Very attentive service, food quality was excellent and they have an interesting variety of beer. Prices seemed reasonable for the size and quality. Would return.
GASP. That beef tartare! The beer is nice, but the food is amazing.
A great mix of beer and upscale food. The menu changes seasonally. My most recent experience was great. We had a mix of Shareable Items and Dinner Items! My favourite was the Acme Aged Steak. This is a sharing restaurant! Don't forget to save room for dessert!
Make a reservation so you are not disappointed.
Great place! Small beer menu of some very nice local brews and beyond. Great place for sharing small plates in a nice atmosphere. Happy hour specials have great charcuterie options for decent prices. Small plates are the best and great for two or more to share...portions arent huge but everything is packed with flavour. Loved the terrine, not sure if an always item or just pops up but was amazing. Very fresh tasting and excellent quality ingredients. Highly recommend!
Wow! We were pleasantly surprised by the unique menu style. The food (apricot salad and ribs) was very flavourful and savoury! The service from our host and our server was excellent; we were able to book for 8:30pm at half capacity. Biera is a brewery with a patio and we'll most definitely come back! I'm coming back for the Meinklang Burgenland Weiss wine and for a tasty salad to myself.
The food at Beira is good while I wouldn't necessarily call it fine dining good, I would call it more on the upper end of gastropub fare. One thing that I personally really don't like is when restaurants that deem themselves fine dining start charging for bread and butter, I really think that is a turnoff. The Korean short ribs and the banana peppers and cheese were my personal two favorite dishes and I would recommend to try them.
The atmosphere is modern and I liked the open feeling, however it does have a really hipster type vibe so if that's not your thing then I wouldn't recommend this place.
The service was generally pretty good however I didn't think it was anything remarkable or stand out.
Parking can be a nightmare as it's street parking only other then only a few very limited amount of stalls at the rear of the building.
Overall my opinion is good not great.
Amazing Edmonton gem! Made our 15 year anniversary so special yesterday. Yes we had to take it all to-go because of restrictions, but when we got home it all looked amazing, warm, and tasted so good. Can’t wait to try the picnic boxes or enjoy the patio when that can happen again.
A phenomenal culinary experience each time we attend. The staff is friendly and prompt, the prices perfectly in line with the quality and the beer excellent. I wish their wine list was a little longer, but I will repeat customer for as long as they're here.
Friendly staff, awesome food that are all nicely presented on plates and the great selection of beer including the beer brewed from their own brewery. I would love to go back. Strongly recommend this place for a date night!
Delicious first dinner out in about a year. It was a good choice! Super atmosphere & tasty unique dishes. Iceburg salad, dumplings, peas and asparagus and the flank steak.... magnificent 👌 we will be back 🍺🍺🍺
We had lunch at Biera as part of an anniversary weekend trip to Edmonton. We are beer enthusiasts and were looking forward to some Blind Enthusiasm brews.
The tasting flight is an unbelievable bargain, four decent taster pours for $10. And it was nice to have smaller pours of some of their barrel aged beers to allow for more tasting. We treated ourselves to a bottle of Mentis Occuili, just a fantastic beer that has a ton of complexity.
We shared the sourdough "crazy bread" with some salami and house pickles. Everything was very tasty and well executed.
Our server, while new, was very up to speed with the beers. Very friendly, fun, and attentive service.
All in all, we had a great time for our first meal out in a long time.
What a gorgeous space - modern, rustic, industrial...so nice! Bright open space with lots of natural light and tall ceilings. Loved the vibe! I love how it's nestled in the middle of Ritchie neighborhood along with other local businesses.
Service was excellent! I loved how the servers explained the dishes when they arrived at the table.
The food was creative, innovative and had really great combinations of local ingredients. Loved that the ingredients came from local producers!
While I loved all the dishes we ordered, my one small criticism is some of the items were a little on the heavy side for sauces (and some of the sauces were super vinegary and a little too salty). I found this to be the case for the morel mushrooms and lettuce on the chicken. I would definitely go back to for more but would probably tell them to go lighter on the sauces and less salt? Their meats were to die for though - the chicken was so well cooked (so tender, juicy, delicious!!) and their minute steak was the best steak I've ever had. Also the sourdough with housemade butter and whipped lardo was really tasty!
You must try the sourdough ice cream and creme fraiche bundt cake! You won't be disappointed. SO GOOD! Biera also gave us the liquorice marshmallow because of the overly salty food - we really appreciated this kind gesture.
Overall, Biera is a winning combination of creative dishes, fresh/local ingredients and excellent customer service. We will definitely be back for more!
Stunning food. The pork was outstanding and well paired with the mushrooms. The beers also very good. This is an incredible concept that Edmonton needs more of.
Biera and Blind Enthusiasm are an amazing combination. Some of the best beers you can find in the city and Biera with a refreshing and smart menu. Food was well executed with refined flavours paired with kind and attentive service.
Food here is always amazing! Would recommend the Risotto, any of the cheeses with the mustard paired with wine.
Fantastic range of flavors and ingredients. Love Biera!
A little pricey, but food is unique and the brews are pretty good! The location and design of the building helps justify the price. Located with Acme meats and Transcend.
Biera is located in a neighborhood that is seeing a revival of local businesses. The craft beer and food that they serve are both delicious and innovative. They have a large variety of darker stout beers than lagers and fruit beers.
The restaurant has a large patio where you can enjoy the short summers.
The food is delicious and innovative, but it is an expensive meal. We enjoyed the green salad and beef tartare. The roasted peppers were delicious as well. The squid was good, but it was almost too large for two people to eat since it had a very powerful taste.
I've visited biera a few times at this point. The beer brewed by Blind Enthusiasm is very approachable while changing up what regular people think of beer. The service is always amazing, the staff are knowledgeable and very friendly!
For the food, I recommend coming with a group. The food is wildly different from a typical brew-pub (no burgers and fries here!) in a good way. Seasonal ingredients (try to visit at each season to get the best experience) and incredible technique. Before dining here I had no idea you could do what Biera does with food. Pictured is a scallop ceviche/crudo/whatever you want to call it and two desserts. Fantastic food.
Overall, Biera is a gem of true gastronomy in Edmonton.
Amazing food and craft beer. It is clear Biera puts a lot thought into the beer they brew, everything is well-balanced, some great sours available on tap and in bottles.
Amazing service, great food and good beer. Really loved the kefir butter with the foccacia bread and the wedge salad was delicious! Had a flight of beer and loved their kook birds beer. Was our first time going to a restaurant in half a year and it really was such a special experience. Lovely and highly recommend!
drinks were delicious and the patio is quiet and comfortable, nice break from getting drinks on Whyte ave. The staff is also super friendly, we had the best experience with our server Dana the other night! She was so nice and definitely made our night :)
What a relaxing evening! Marcel was an excellent server, who was attentive and offered great suggestions. The food was the absolutely delicious, the most succulent beef tartare. Lastly the spot prawns; spot on!
Fantastic little spot nestled in a cozy neighborhood. Very unique menu with tasty dishes. The bread nuggets are like nothing I've ever had before and they are so delicious. Bonus, they are also a brewery so great beer selection. Menu is mostly sharing plates so be sure to come hungry!
Amazing as always. Everything you want from a fine dining experience. The tastes that this place puts on your plate are the best in Edmonton.
Biera has the feel of a microbrasserie, with its high quality plates, well considered beer pairings, and attentive service. Highly recommend.
The food here is absolutely great. The combination of flavours and texture is very well done. The beer selection is also good and you can order a sample tray. It’s in a very convenient location and you can have coffee from the coffee shop attached to it. The atmosphere is good. Staff is nice. It’s also ok to bring infant babies here. Dishes I suggest: baby carrots with onion dip, chickpea pancake, sourdough focaccia, juniper pastrami... and so many more.
Great spot!! Food, service top notch and beers from Blind Enthusiasm are superb!
The place was quite busy on a Saturday eve and so we asked if we could sit at the bar and were seated immediately.
Fresh brewed beers with top notch food and great atmosphere! They serve their signature sourdough bread with many menu items and are planning to open a wild fermentation brewery nearby (99th and 78ave Monolith brewery) once the wild or open fermentation production is ready.
We had Tofor’s delight beer which is very nice but with too bitter of an aftertaste for my wife but was exactly what I wanted. Also, she had the Dunkel Schmilk a very smooth beer which she enjoyed a lot. We shared the grilled “hen of the woods” mushrooms which was amazing! We weren’t terribly hungry but went home with full stomachs.
Excellent food, designed to pair with delicious craft beer, good service, and a very cool space. The food is modern and delicious.
Solid anchor to Ritchie Market and an outlet for Blind Enthusiasm brewing.
I rarely recommend the chicken when eating out, but this one's with it.
The food is amazing. Highly recommend the sample doodle !
Great covered patio, great ambience. Service was excellent; food and beers were tasty.
My partner and I had a great meal. Food was delicious and cannot wait to come back again soon. Really great Covid safe space and atmosphere so would recommend it to anyone.
The steak tartare is amazing. Great ambiance and staff.
Such a great patio experience. Food, wine and beer were stellar. Our server Dana was amazing. Hope to be back soon!
This was probably the best restaurant experience I have ever had. The servers were all wonderful and gave amazing suggestions. We tried the 'Sampledoodle' and the 'Meadjito' for drinks which we really enjoyed. All the food we had exceedes our expections. Our favorite was the 'Cheese Dumpling'. The whole atmosphere of Biera is refreshing.
I can't even say 1 thing to improve about this place. The service was personable, drinks were amazing and food was best I've had at any resturant. I had no idea what most of the food item were so we let the server pick and I'm glad we did. Staff all had a really cool vibe to them as well.
Interesting cuisine in an attractive funky environment. Worth trying out and they brew interesting beer.
This visit was exquisite, and Sarah was super knowledgeable and awesome!
This is a great place to go with a group of friends. We shared 6 dishes on the menu, and we got to enjoy them one at a time as they were completed. Everything we had was excellent (especially the tartare and the ribs). Our service was great as well. Dana gave us solid recommendations and stopped by often to make sure we were doing well. Thanks, Biera!
What a neat concept Blind Enthusiasm has going on. We arrived for the snack menu. We had the sourdough nuggets (must try!) and a homemade sausage special. Both were delicious. But apart from the food, the beer is outstanding. They're doing really cool experiments with European styles. I can't wait to go back, and I'm really looking forward to trying their sours when the Monolith is ready. Looking forward to coming back to try their dinner menu and whatever new brews they have to offer.
I was surprised. Seems Biera is a hub. Attracting and revitalizing businesses around it as well. We went on a Wednesday, place was busy even at opening. We shared a few plates and had beers. The beer that stood out for me was the extra special monk. I loved the sourdough with the butter and lardo. The lardo with puffed buckwheat reminded me of chiccaron, tasty stuff! My boyfriend loved the beef tartar.
Beer was 5 stars, food and service were nothing to write home about—decent and would probably go back. Rib eye steak was quite average, and would not compare to a steakhouse but was cheaper than what one might get there. Beef tartare also tasty, but nothing special and had too much sauce on it. The fish used for the sablefish crudo was of good quality, but the preparation just contained some citrus acidity and no further depth. Pizza was good. Risotto wasn’t made of the usual arborio rice, so was creative and quite good.
The beer is the best part about this place for sure.
Didn't understand the food options. Sure its nice but our patio seating was in full sun
Fantastic food - unique choices. Not pretentious but not boring!
Quite a variety of brews and unique flavour combinations.
Food was very fresh and flavorful 👌
Love this place, good is always delicious.
Fantastic food with fresh ingredients
Great meal! The food was soooo good!
Biera is our favourite! The food is always inventive and delicious. Last night we had the pleasure of being served by Zach, whose positive attitude was infectious and made us smile. Thank you for another great experience Biera team!
Beautiful looking restaurant. I stopped in for some Blind Enthusiasm beer which was good but could use more variety of beer types. I didn't have food so can't comment on that.
Great food and fantastic service. The beer menu left me wanting more of a different selection. Overall, I recommend this place. Probably more of a 4.5 star place with half a star taken off due to beer selection. I suppose that is fairly subjective though.
Always fabulous food and beer!
Incredible staff. Really nice. Have to have an open mind on the food and surprisingly it's delicious for the vision of the restaurant. It's to share so you need to order a few plates to feel full (if you have 3 people, order 4 dishes). It had the most delicious sourdough bread I have tasted in a while. Wine is super expensive though, I wish they gave us more by the glass or liter options - mainly catered to beers. It is a bit expensive so be prepared to break the bank if you really want to enjoy. There's no TVs so you cannot watch any games. They have cool socializing events for whoever is in to that on certain days. Also, call ahead. We did feel a little rushed by the hostess as the place gets busy.
Well.... It's probably some of the best food you can eat in Edmonton City. Eating the Sourdough was like receiving a warm hug from your Grandmother. Refreshing would be a gargantuan understatement in regards to the Spring Green Salad. The Squid? I don't know what to say. It was very, very good Squid. I normally get anxious when I go to restaurants with menus grounded in share plates because I worry that some members of my party are going to make foolish choices BUT those fears were obliterated by dish after dish after dish of splendid bites. There is simply not a bad item on the menu. There is not even any OK items on the menu. Everything made me want to exclaim "Oh....This is really good" but I opted to simply point my fork at the plate repeatedly and chew while nodding at the comrade to my left. But it doesn't stop there. Our sever, Andrew, was a smooth operator if I've ever seen one. He greeted us, took our order and brought us our food with the calm demeanour of a veteran, yet still emanated a carefree and boyish charm throughout the evening.
Amazing food and service
Glorified brew pub with overpriced food and drinks. Service was let down, friendly but not timely. At the price point, you would expect a higher degree of service.
I had a small problem ordering off the website. When I contacted the restaurant my concern was immediately addressed. I received excellent customer service and I look forward to eating and drinking my order soon.
The staff were amazing. We were late for the reservation so they gave our table away. But, they were so accommodating, They got us seats in 20 minutes. Tartare is amazing first of all. Endive salad is good, I just wanted some stinky cheese with it I guess❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂. Sour dough was spectacular with the Herb Cultured butter (Lavage was fresh and flavourful). Their Teas are amazing. Flatbread were okay. But overall AMAZING AMAZING EXPERIENCE.
I am a little late in posting this, better late than never!! IaI Biera/Blind Enthusiasm Brewing to see if I could purchase some of their beer to resell at our Paint Nite fund-raiser in honor of our son Leo. Not only did they provide delicious beer for us they sent us a beer expert (Tom)with two kegs of beer that he poured for us during our event. Biera provided this at no cost to us which allowed us to make that much more money for our event. We are grateful beyond words for this great establishment. Special thanks to Justin and Tom.
Paul and Caroline.
The beer was great and the atmosphere was even better. We loved the shared plates of ricotta dumplings and the rye risotto, the flavours and textures were perfect. The short rib was good but not over the top. We ended with the radicchio and it was just too bitter for my taste. Overall a really nice experience. I'd come back for a growler and I'd like to try the pork.
