An experience of luxury at a reasonable price. Complimentary truffle popcorn starts the dining experience off on the right note. The food is scrumptious of course. Their wagyu is expertly done. But it is the ambiance which brings the flavors to life. From the courteous servers to the dim lights and soft music. Everything fills the space but doesn't overwhelm and allows for a magical evening over delicious food. Situated in Kensington, parking is not hard to find and the location is easy to access. Treat yourself!

We came here for dinner around 6:30 pm. It wasn't too busy as there were several tables left empty. It was our first time coming here. Was recommended by a few friends of ours. Our server was very friendly and really paid close attention to detail. Our order was repeated back also with a few suggestions on the sides. The popcorn on the table was so good. The truffle oil on the popcorn was a nice touch. We couldn't stop eating it. The Modern Caesar salad was good. That came out fairly quick and had no complaints there. Our entree did take a very long time to come out. Found ourselves waiting and even our server had to apologize for the long wait. We got the ribeye tasting and it was okay. The best ribeye was the Modern Bench. Which was surprising cause I've had the Brant Lake Waygu at other restaurants and was blown away. The waygu here was not as tender or flavourful. We found the steaks to be very heavily salted. Even the mac and cheese and fried were very salty. The brussels sprouts was very good and really helped cut the salt. The asparagus was fine as well. Nothing to write home about on those. The food overall was good. Only complaint was it was over seasoned and took a very long time to come out. Our server was awesome, she really took care of us.

Me and my wife were on our way back to Calgary after our road trip and decided to go for steaks. Didn’t have a reservation and the place was full, asked the staff if something could be done since were originally from Toronto and leaving tomorrow. The staff was super helpful and arranged us a table which was super nice. Me and my wife decided to go for the Tomahawk and that steak did not disappoint. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned and simply heavenly…The service throughout was amazing, the staff was super friendly. I would definitely recommend to everyone. The steaks are a must have and the service will not disappoint. Also has halal options

Modern Steak is probably my favourite restaurant currently. And it’s because they never disappoint. Both locations! This particular review is about the Kensington Modern steak that I went to on July 3rd for my birthday. Everyone was so nice and professional. I go on my birthday every year to one of the locations atleast twice. The food was incredible as always. And I can’t praise our waiter enough. Tristian was perfect. We came in know what we wanted but was always there to give suggestions and make as laugh a lot. And at the table next to us I heard him explaining all the farms and the styles of meat. So knowledgeable, professional and definitely made the night memorable. I’ll always recommend you guys all the time. And will continue to come and support an incredible business whenever possible! Having dinner at this location is exceptional. The service was excellent. Steak was fantastic. We had the Tomahawk and my partner who is a steak lover was over the moon about the quality of meat. Totally recommend and would go again.

We come to this location often for Modern Ocean, but we thought we would try Modern Steak this time as a newly-wed treat to ourselves. First off, the service is amazing, 5/5. The server was great and accommodated our somewhat odd requests (asking for some of the Modern Ocean specials for downstairs), we also had the manager come to talk to us about wine suggestions which was a nice touch. For our treat, we got one of the most expensive items of the menu, the A5 Miyazakigyu wagyu ribeye steak. This review is written mostly as a suggestion rather than a critique. We found the steak was uninspiring. It was undercooked (think blue rare when we wanted medium rare) and under-seasoned. We had to send it back a second time and it was still under-seasoned and undercooked. The chef seemed almost scared to sear it more. For a $300 steak, we were disappointed with the cooking quality. However, the overall experience was still wonderful and the manager came by with a free dessert.

We came for a meal, left having had some STEAK! The Tomahawk steak was aged 40 days and grilled perfectly. Modern is the most particular steakhouse we have ever been to, as you get to choose which Ranch you want your steaks from! Definitely the place to go when in Calgary

My partner and I went on Wednesday for their date night special, two steaks, two sides and a bottle of wine for $80. The steaks were great, and the sides were amazing! We went with another couple and we all ended up sharing our four sides which is TOTALLY the way to do it! The servers were very nice and super attentive. Overall it was a great night and a fantastic deal. Also, The Baked Alaska dessert is really fun!

I love going to Modern SteaK in Kensington. The atmosphere is great! The service is great! The food is fantastic! They are doing a great job. It’s a great night out! We do the Wednesday Date Night.
