I have tried almost every Ethiopian restaurant in Calgary, and Abysinnia is by far THE BEST. The food, the flavours, the portion sizes, and the affordable prices are UNMATCHED. I come for the meat and I'm never disappointed. The owners are so sweet and kind. You'll need to come and try this place!

Very nice area with seating and decor. Lots of space for larger groups inside and out. Prices are great and service is friendly. Can take some time to get food but at least it is very fresh. Would recommend checking out. Good can be very spicy beware

I decided to explore other cuisine especially African cuisine. This was a good experience. The food was tasty. My fav was the vegetarian platter all the spices, flavour, colors you won't be disappointed that you didn't get meat. Platter in the pic is a mixture of vegetarian and beef. For the ultimate experience you will be dining with your hands.

Great Ethiopian cuisine experience! The restaurant is big with lots of tables and an outdoor al fresco area with comfy sitting. Ambience was very authentic with Ethiopian music, incense smell, decorative art and beautifully crafted chairs and tables. We ordered the Bere Tibs mild spicy (Beef stew and peppers on tomato sauce). Meat and veggies were tender and flavourful. We also got a veggie platter with different lentils, beans, beets, pickled veggies, all on top of Injera bread. Injera itself taste like sourdough bread. It is a little sour but it compliments the flavour of the stew and veggies. The best thing we ordered is their Bunna Coffee (Coffee Ceremony)!! The presentation was beautiful and it comes with a frankincense to add positive vibes and drama to your Ethiopian coffee experience. The coffee flavour is one of the best we’ve had! Way better than all pretentious hipster cafe in Calgary. All staff were amazing and attentive to our needs. Just take into consideration that it will take a lot of time to prepare your meals and plan ahead! Definitely coming back to try their other stir fried beef and Doro Wot (Chicken stew with egg)!

Tasty food but not the spiciness and hotness level everyone would enjoy. Really liked their traditional coffee serving 'ritual'. Make sure to make a reservation on weekend or holiday as this place gets quite busy.

Extremely delicious. There were 3 of us and we got the 4 people meat and veggie platter, thinking it should be enough. We were wrong. It was more than enough. The portion sizes are extremely generous. Easily could have fed 5 people. Service was excellent and courteous. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to try something new.

We got the vegetable platter from Abyssinia and it was absolutely incredible! I was so pleasantly surprised, such authentic Ethiopian food and ingredients were fresh and delicious. One of my favourite spots in Calgary, would definitely recommend!

currently Best place in town for Ethiopian dishes. Very flavorful. Its beecome very popular amongest the foreigners and of course the Ethiopians and Eritreans. due to its continued popularity its service at times is slow and one can wait up to 45 to 50 minutes to get your food.

Awesome restaurant and great service. We had this awesome combination platter and very tasty (spicy too). Kudos to the owner who hires newcomers to Canada. Supporting new Canadians and Black owned businesses is so important. We would highly recommend this restaurant and a little patience with the staff will go a long way.

We went here to try food different than usual and it was the best choice we could have made. The lady that took care of us was super friendly and took the time to explain the menu and make suggestions, even though she was very busy. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food, so can't talk about how authentic it is...but it is delicious! We will be back!

Tonight we experienced our best takeout of 2020! This year has been a roller-coaster for so many and I imagine as much for the Abyssinia team as any. Somehow they poured their hearts onto our plates with the most incredible ensemble of seasonal, local veggies and perfectly tender, seasoned meats. I’ve travelled Ethiopia and can say that this food is AUTHENTIC! You need to cancel your dinner plans tonight and order the “Trays for Multiples - MAHIBERAWI” Sit back and wrap that sweet love in a piece of wonderful injeera! Thank you so much for our warm bellies and full hearts!! Amazing!

One of my favourite Ethiopian restaurants in Calgary. The food is delicious and aesthetically pleasing. Unlike other restaurants who try and cater the taste and seasoning to be generally accepted by most, this restaurant stays traditionally true in flavour. It's a must for anyone looking for an authentic Ethiopian food experience. Delicious Ethiopian food! We had the vegetarian platter (for 2) which was great. Nice variety of dishes with one that had a good level of spice. We also got the fish goulosh which was perfectly spicy, salty and very flavourful. Will come again for sure.

The place is a must go, the food is delicious and savory. Spicy yet you can feel all the flavors as the food melts on your mouth. The portions may seem small but they fill you up! The server was extremely nice and welcoming and helped example almost everything on the menu. The highlight of the meal was the stuffed Jalapeno Appetizers, however the plate was devoured before I had a chance to take a picture. The mains came on a big platter. For the mains order the Shiro Wat & the Siga Tibs. The Shiro Wat was more spicy but the Tibs had much more flavor and taste. To make it an Ethiopian experience, ordered the Coffee Party. And the presentation was beautiful, and the coffee is amazing if you into coffee. -1 was it took about 1hr to get the food and about 30 minutes to get the coffee. But worth the wait...

An absolute treat and a feast. Service is relaxed and informal which felt great. The flavours are quite awesome and all over. In a multitude of dishes we had a little heat, a little bitter, or tart, or vinegar or savory or spices ...all well balanced. A real adventure.

For a great authentic taste of Ethiopia food in Calgary one must visit the Abyssinia restaurant. A delicious selection of meet, stew,, and vegetarian dishes that are very flavourful and represent the wonderful cuisine of Ethiopia. I highly recommended this restaurant. Must try.

A friend took me here on Saturday evening. It was my first experience with Ethiopian food. I loved everything! The food was very delicious, the atmosphere was amazing and the staff were very patient with me. My friend speaks Amharic and he made an excellent translator. I will definitely dine here again.

What a marvelous place to dine. Abyssinia is the only Ethiopian restaurant where my sisters and I choose to dine. Once we had an event, they organized beyond our expectations. Waitress go above and beyond to satisfy customers. The owner always have pleasant and welcoming manner. Love the food and love the service. I am not speaking only for myself, but on behalf of my sisters as well. Would be a pleasure to take friends to Abyssinia, in fact, can't wait to show them. Thank you for all your service, Kudos to the owner and servers!

This is a real gem of a restaurant and it's a wonderful cultural experience. The food is awesome, the beautiful decor (along with the round tables) makes you feel like you are a prince/princess in Ethiopia, the owner is a very kind lady, and the price is very reasonable. We were very full afterwards, especially after ordering extra (and very delicious) injera bread. :) I'm sure the meat dishes are great too but I'm always amazed at how Ethiopian food can make vegetables taste so good. Please go out and support them. We need more family-owned, delicious, unique, and reasonably priced restaurants like this. God bless them. :)

Food is great!, as long as you stay away from their Veggie dishes which are horrible! Food is quite pricey compared to the other Ethiopian restaurants in town. Great place but pricey :D

Amazing service! Had a craving for Ethiopian food and they were the only place in the city who actually had everything advertised on their menu. Great staff, impeccable actually and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. Was a very busy night> wait time was minimal & they serve traditional coffee while you wait and even had a small seating area so you were not left to stand outside or in the doorway. Definitely will be going back!

Best Ethiopian food ever!! ask for the coffee at the end you won't regret it... music is amazing and if you bring your kids they have an all Disney old cartoon channel so they also have fun. the ambient is great and facilities are very comfy.

We had a delicious Ethiopian vegan dinner at Abyssinia. As soon as we said we were vegans, the woman told us what we could have. Since this was our first time there while vacationing in Canada, she suggested the vegetable platter for two to share. The platter was not only incredibly delicious but it was also beautiful in presentation. Actually, the amount of food was very generous, and actually one of the platters would have been enough for both of us. No Ethiopian beer the night we were there, but beer tasted very good with the spicy food. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This may be the best Ethiopian food I've ever had! Absolutely fantastic place and modern (loved the arts on the wall and wood work) , homey , and above all the food is super amazing... The portions were huge and you can see the food being made fresh and from scratch. The server were so polite and the owner is down to earth. She offered us free coffee.

Amazing service and food! Highly recommend the Gura T'ibs, a dish created by the owner which is a great introduction to Ethiopian cuisine for those still new to it. The ambiance and decor were very authentic and the owner's hospitality was the cherry on top.

Oh my gawd!!!! So freakin amazing best Sushi in Red Deer!! Affordable, great atmosphere, delicious Sushi. Lots of selection on the menu. They do have food other than Sushi if sushi ain't your thing. Waitresses were very friendly, helpful and courteous. Lots of seating, street parking..within walking distance to the ever popular "Ross street Patio".

I came here with about 15 friends for a party and it was excellent! They were really accommodating of our large group, including dietary restrictions like gluten free and vegetarian. The food came quickly and was excellent, and the price was really reasonable. A couple of people had the coffee ceremony and it was incredible. I would definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I came here around 10:30pm last night looking for vegan food and the restaurant was already closed. However, just as we were about to walk away, the owner walked up to the restaurant and found us standing in the cold trying to find other food options, and she opened the door just for us and insisted that we stay for dinner! She was so warm and kind, and gave us some of the best customer service either of us had ever experienced. We ordered the veggie platter, which was incredible! There were so many bold and diverse flavors. My boyfriend and I were blown away by this experience and highly recommend that you eat here.

The food was good but the bathroom could have been cleaner. There was a lot of "hair" in the sink. The toilet seat had dried pee which look like it has been there for a while. They often say the bathroom reflects the cleanliness of a kitchen, I hope they keep an eye out to maintain this.

First time eating Ethiopian food and overall it was amazing. The menu has a helpful glossary to explain some terms yyou maybe unfamiliar with and its pretty straightforward. The waitress was very helpful in explaining the food to us, but what takes the cake is the flavour of chick pea stew. 10/10 will come back.

This place slaps. If it's your first time, tell them and they'll take your taste buds to another dimension. Trust. Customer service was prime, the hosts were personal and kind. The place is quite warm - perfect for Calgary. No utensils allowed ;)

This place takes you to Africa.. There's an Afrikaans/Dutch word for the vibes here: "gezellig", which captures the feelings of warmth, joy, and being with your loved ones. The food and coffee flavors made you feel like you are in the heart of Ethiopia.
